“Good Morning Gorgeous” is a melodically rich track that is filled with the familiar, honest and edgy sound we have come to expect from The Queen of Hip Hop Soul. “Good Morning Gorgeous” is a queenly yet gentle reminder for us to love ourselves even though it may be hard and we are unsure of where to start:

“I wake up every morning and tell myself/ Good morning, gorgeous/ Sometimes you gotta look in the mirror and say/ Good Morning, gorgeous/ No one else could make me feel this way (yeah)/ Good morning, gorgeous/ Good morning (gorgeous)/ Good morning, gorgeous”

This is a sentiment that we can all relate to considering the climate that we are living in.

Ms. Blige used this track to uplift and speak to our spirits, nudging us to continue on, to continue to fight in the face of adversity and in spite of our circumstances.

“All the times that I should’ve been gentle with me/ All the times that I should’ve been careful with me/ Why did I hate myself? (Why did I hate?)/ So intensely/ Lord, help me”

As usual, Ms. Blige painted the most transparent and perfect picture of being human. Regardless of her pain, shortcomings, and doubt; her inner strength shines through. She has the innate and quean ability to write the soundtracks to our lives. Every lyric pierces its way through our own pain and allows us to heal in a way that only honest chords can do. Ms. Blige consistently sings the secret things of our hearts and for this, we are eternally grateful.

“Amazing” is an upbeat feel good anthem that has an undeniable island sound mixed with an old-school hip-hop vibe. This track lets us know that Ms. Blige hasn’t lost her ability to continually reinvent herself while staying true to her original sound. She uses the beautifully crafted beat to showcase that it’s time to celebrate! Swag and opulence drip from the lyrics in the song:

Every day like my birthday, bring the cake in/ Bring the cake in, bring the cake in
I feel good, I feel great, man, I feel amazing/ Man, I feel amazing, man, I feel amazing
Every day celebrate, not just on occasion/ On occasion, not just on occasion
I feel good, I feel great, man, I feel amazing/ Feel amazing, man, I feel amazing

After listening to this tune you will feel “Amazing” and invigorated. Ms. Blige shows us that she will always find a way to have fun, be true to herself, and give us the inspiration to pursue our own happiness:

I feel too wavy, you can’t save me/ I meditate on the daily, to keep sane
I mean I’m goin’ out my mind, I’m goin’ crazy/ I think it might be my season, I’m elevated, aye

Indeed she has elevated! From her spin-off show on Starz; Power Book II: Ghost, playing the character Monet Tejada who is the matriarch of her family, taking over as a Drug Queen Pen while her husband sits behind bars. Even on the show; she is able to convey the strength of women everywhere. As a single mother of three children, attempting to teach and sustain them all while in the seedy underworld of the drug game, Monet is a strong force to be reckoned with. This show airs on Sundays at 9:00 pm EST on Starz.

We acknowledge and salute Ms. Blige for her perseverance, beauty, and candor throughout the years and are eagerly awaiting what is next from the Queen of Hip Hop Soul.
