Yahoo has reported today that Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended from “The View” for two weeks after facing wide criticism for her remarks that the Holocaust was \u201cnot about race.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Goldberg\u2019s suspension was announced in a statement released by ABC News public relations on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEffective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments,\u201d reads a statement attributed to Kim Godwin, president at ABC News. \u201cWhile Whoopi has apologized, I\u2019ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Goldberg\u2019s comments on \u201cThe View\u201d reached the highest level of decision makers at Disney, Variety <\/em>can confirm. According to sources, Peter Rice, the chairman of Disney General Entertainment Content, was consulted on the public fallout for Goldberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Goldberg\u2019s remarks emerged during a conversation on Monday\u2019s broadcast of \u201cThe View,\u201d in which the co-hosts discussed a Tennessee school board\u2019s ban of \u201cMaus,\u201d a nonfiction graphic novel about cartoonist Art Spiegelman\u2019s father\u2019s experience surviving the Holocaust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cLet\u2019s be truthful about it because [the] Holocaust isn\u2019t about race,\u201d Goldberg said on Monday\u2019s episode. \u201cIt\u2019s not about race.
