Jazz Master Dr. Lonnie Smith recently passed away September 28th of this year. Earlier this year, he released his final album, Breathe, on Blue Note Records. The full-length album contains two collaborative tracks with rock icon Iggy Pop, including a soul-jazz take on Donovan’s 1966 hit song, “Sunshine Superman.” In honor of Dr. Smith, we decided to feature that selection as a tribute, which you can listen to here. Iggy Pop recently took to social media to salute Smith and called him “nothing but pure soul and the best musician I ever played with.”

As a bonus for Smith’s many fans, we added Dr. Smiths most iconic release from back in 1968, the incessant and infectious 9:09 minute (version) of the driving Live and funky groove of “Move Your Hand” featuring Sylvester Goshay on Drums, Larry McGee on Guitar, Dr. Smith on Organ and Vocals, Ronnie Cuber and Rudy Jones on Saxophone.
