Bobby Womack, a prolific gospel-soul singer and guitarist who also wrote songs recorded by the Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, George Benson and others, and was a longtime (Tarzana) Los Angeles resident, died Friday June 27, 2014. He was 70.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Womack who was born in Cleveland’s Fairfax neighborhood, near East 85th Street and Quincy Avenue, was revered by many singers across various genres because of his legacy as a guitarist, songwriter and perhaps more so as a gospel and soul singer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I Wish He Didn’t trust Me So Much” is thought by many to be an autobiographical nod about Womack’s relationship with his friend Sam Cooke, and Cooke’s wife. Womack faced a ferocious backlash after his marriage to Cooke’s widow, Barbara Cooke. He went through a period where he would go to radio stations and\u00a0disc Jockeys and program directors would throw away his records because of the related scandal and perceived Sam Cooke betrayal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

20 year old Womack and Barbara Cooke, who was 10 years his senior first attempted to only 77 days after Sam Cooks Murder, and were finally married 1 week later when Womack became of legally of age to marry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
